Our approach to determining our impact
Impact is the measurable change or effect that our action or initiatives have on a particular group, community, or environment over the long term. Measuring impact is fundamental to understanding the effectiveness of our efforts and ensuring that our resources are directed toward initiatives that create meaningful change. By quantifying and evaluating impact, we can refine our strategies, optimize resource allocation and programs, and demonstrate accountability to stakeholders.
Mud Valley Institute categorizes our impact metrics into two categories:
Human-Focused Impact
These metrics focus on the people, organizations, and communities we have interfaced with and impacted.
Ecosystem-Focused Impact
These metrics focus on our impact in the ecological realm, which constitutes things such as soil, water, flora, and fauna.
Human-Focused KPIs:
Number of participants in our programs
Satisfaction scores from program participants
Number of programs presented
Amount of funding given to partner organizations
Ecosystem-Focused KPIs:
Hectares impacted/restored through our work and support
Number of plots of land/water in which we have worked or supported work
Average yield increase from supported projects
Number of research projects supported
What monitoring and evaluation is and why we do it.
Monitoring is the continuous collection of data within a fixed time period, and Evaluation is the analysis of the data collected over time. We do both, in a coordinated manner, for several reasons. It allows us to clearly show our impact while being transparent, understand how our restoration activities affect the ecosystems we are working with, and supports the continuous improvement of our on-the-ground work.
